Bishop Sheldon Fabre, the first African American Bishop in the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese was inducted into the Finding Our Roots African American Museum. He is one of 16 African American Catholic Bishops in the United States.
During the speech, he presented the Finding Our Roots Museum with 3,000 records of slaves who were baptized in the Terrebone-Lafourche Parish Region. The records can be viewed by the general public.
These are the records of slaves who were baptized. They can be tremendously helpful in genealogy and research. They’re spiritual records, but they are also historical documents. – Bishop Sheldon Fabre
